Student Conference “UN Model” held in Ashgabat

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan

The first official “UN Model” took place in Turkmenistan on 30 November. The UN Model brought together more than sixty students of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan to imitate a session of the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly focusing on energy security.

The student conference was organized jointly by UNRCCA and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and with the support of the Department of Public Information of the UN Secretariat.

The UN Model aims at promoting fundamental values and principles of the United Nations, acquainting young people with rules of procedure of various UN bodies and raising public awareness of international cooperation for the resolution of topical problems of the modern world.

Based on statements made by students at the UN Model conference, a report was prepared which reflected recommendations of students “playing” representatives of UN member states for practical steps to be taken towards the implementation of the GA Resolution “Reliable and stable transit of energy and its role in ensuring sustainable development”.
