22 Jun 2017 - A two-day regional seminar entitled “The role of women and youth in conflict prevention in Central Asia” concluded on June 20, 2017 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The event was organized by the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) in cooperation with the UN-Women Multi-country Office of in Central Asia (UN-Women) and the Regional Office of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
16 Jun 2017 - On 14 June, UNRCCA hosted a Mini-Dublin Group (informal co-ordination group of like-minded countries on the fight against illicit drugs) meeting in Ashgabat. This was the fifth mini-Dublin Group meeting hosted by the Centre and chaired by the Italian Embassy in Ashgabat. Representatives of law enforcement agencies of Turkmenistan, the diplomatic community as well as UNDP and the OSCE attended the meeting.

14 Jun 2017 - Ashgabat, 13 June 2017 – Today, United Nations Secretary-General Mr. António Guterres chaired a “High-Level United Nations-Central Asian Dialogue on Implementing the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia”. On this occasion, ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan adopted a Joint Declaration on strengthening regional collaboration to counter-terrorism.

When I was here in 2010, the people of Osh were struggling to cope with the consequences of the tragic events in June that year.
Those were terrible days but the people of Osh have demonstrated a remarkable resilience, an enormous patience and a capacity to recover from these terrible days that need to be praised by all of us.

Visiting the Aral Sea and seeing what was the fourth largest inland sea in the world almost dead has caused a tremendous shock. This is probably the biggest ecological catastrophe of our time. And it demonstrates that men can destroy the planet.
09 Jun 2017 - I am very happy to be here for this visit to Kazakhstan and to be participating, of course, in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, and in the opening of the EXPO 2017 that I hope will be a landmark in our commitment to sustainable development, especially in relation to something that is absolutely crucial in relation to climate change – that is, of course, the energy dimension.

The Secretary-General has left New York on Wednesday, seventh of June, for a visit to Central Asia that will take him to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
