Visit of SRSG Draganov to Moscow

MOSCOW, Russia

On 24-26 April, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), Petko Draganov, travelled to Moscow for consultations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, in the Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

The SRSG accompanied USG for Political Affairs Jeffry Feltman at the meetings with State-Secretary Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin and Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov. He held bilateral meetings with the Special Envoy of the President of Russia for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov, the Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergei Lebedev and the Deputy Secretary-General of the CSTO Amanjol Jankuliev.

The SRSG took part in a session of the CSTO working group on Afghanistan.

During the meetings, an exchange of views took place on current developments in Central Asia against the backdrop of the situation in Afghanistan and the Middle East. The SRSG briefed his counterparts on UNRCCA’s initiatives aimed at strengthening regional cooperation on trans-boundary water management, countering terrorism, violent extremism, illicit drugs and other forms of organized crime.
