UNRCCA helps to promote women’s peace-building role in Central Asia

ALMATY, Kazakhstan -

SRSG Jenča attended the 2011 Open Days on Women, Peace and Security, organized by UN Women in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The meeting, which gathered over 20 women human rights activists from Central Asian countries, touched upon opportunities to strengthen women's contribution to peace building, conflict prevention and recovery.

It also enabled direct dialogue with women's peace-building organizations on means of improving implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, while reaffirming the links between gender equality, post-conflict recovery, peace and security. Discussions focused on practical mechanisms to ensure meaningful participation of women in regional initiatives affecting stability, particularly in the Ferghana Valley.
