BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan -

On 29-30 September, SRSG and Head of the UNRCCA, Ambassador Miroslav Jenča visited Kyrgyzstan and met with Ms. Otunbaeva, President of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Mr. Muraliev, First Vice Prime Minister.

Political and security situation in Kyrgyzstan was discussed in the context of the upcoming general elections scheduled for 10 October, including the UN assistance provided for elections preparation.

SRSG Jenča also had a trip to Osh on 29 September where he visited the construction sites in destroyed neighborhoods of the city. He met Mr. Satybaldiev, Vice Prime Minister responsible for the reconstruction of the South, and other officials from provincial government and electoral bodies. SRSG Jenča also held a meeting with representatives of local NGOs to discuss the initiatives on peacebuilding and reconciliation.
