VIENNA, Austria -

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) and Head of the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Ambassador Miroslav Jenca visited Vienna for a series of high level meetings with OSCE officials and delegations.

OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut and SRSG discussed developments in Central Asia in the water-energy sector, the fight against cross-border threats and the situation in Afghanistan, and underlined the significance of the 2010 Kazakh chairmanship for the region. Support was expressed for the conduct of joint events in the conflict prevention sphere during the upcoming Kazakh chairmanship.

Prospects for cooperation were also discussed with the Kazakh Ambassador to the OSCE, particularly in the areas of climate change and the fight against terrorism. Regional initiatives and issues, including energy supplies and the development of trans-boundary co-operation, were touched upon with the OSCE coordinator for economic and environmental activities.
