SRSG Jenča visits Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan -

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) and Head of the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Ambassador Miroslav Jenča visited Dushanbe on 9-10 July as part of his regional tour and held meetings with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Khamrokhon Zarifi.

Water and energy were key issues during discussions with high officials in Dushanbe. SRSG Jenča underlined the importance of the Summit of the International Fund for saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) which took place in Almaty on 28 April 2009 and informed about the support the Centre has provided to the IFAS. Additionally SRSG Jenča discussed security related developments including situation in Afghanistan and its impact on Central Asia. During his meetings Ambassadors Jenča also stressed the importance of sound market conditions in attracting foreign investors for the country's economic development.
