ASTANA, Kazakhstan –

On 30-31 May, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), Miroslav Jenča visited Kazakhstan to take part in the 4th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.

On the margins of the Congress he held negotiations with senior government officials, including Chairman of the Agency for Religious Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Lama Shariff. The sides exchanged views on the role of religious leaders in the fight against extremism in the region and further cooperation between the Centre and Kazakh authorities in this regard.
