DUSHANBE, Tajikistan –

On 1-2 June, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), Miroslav Jenča, together with the Executive Director of UNODC Yuri Fedotov co-chaired the first regional meeting of the UN Task Force on Transnational Organized Crime and Drug Trafficking, which was established in March 2011 by the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The meeting underlined the need to cooperate on the ground and use UN regional offices, including UNRCCA, as platforms for initiatives that promote security as well as human rights and sustainable development. During his visit to Tajikistan, SRSG Jenča also traveled to the border with Afghanistan and had discussions with local authorities on security and cross-border cooperation issues.
