Visit of SRSG Miroslav Jenča to Moscow

MOSCOW, Russia -

On 16-17 November 2011, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Head of the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), Miroslav Jenča conducted a working visit to Moscow. During the visit, Mr. Jenča held talks with the First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Denisov, State Secretary-Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin and Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Borodavkin in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. The Head of the UNRCCA also met with the Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergei Lebedev, Secretary-General of EurAsEC Tair Mansurov and Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO Ara Badalyan.

During the meetings the exchange of views on the current situation and potential developments in Central Asia, as well as ways of further strengthening of bilateral and regional cooperation has occurred in order to find mutually acceptable solutions in the management of water and energy resources, combating terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and organized crime. The Head of the Regional Centre informed interlocutors on the preparation of the ministerial level meeting for implementing of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia, which will take place on 30 November 2011 in Ashgabat.

The UNRCCA conflict prevention activities and the possibility of further support of the UN peacekeeping initiatives in Central Asia by the Russian side have also been discussed.
