Visit of the Head of UNRCCA to Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan –

On 22-25 January, Petko Draganov, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General (SRSG), Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), visited Uzbekistan to meet with Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov; First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis (Parliament) Sadiq Safaev; Director of the Institute of Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan Batyr Tursunov. The SRSG also met with representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Uzbekistan and Director of the Executive Committee of the Regional Counter-Terrorism Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (RCTS of the SCO) Yevgeniy Sysoyev.

During the meetings, an exchange of views took place on topical issues of the interaction between UNRCCA and the Uzbek side, UNRCCA’s programmatic activities related to the management of trans-boundary water resources and environmental protection in the Aral Sea Basin as well as countering regional security threats and challenges.
