UNRCCA took part at the 2016 Economic Forum in Baku

BAKU, Azerbaijan –

Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of UNRCCA, Petko Draganov visited Baku and Ganja, Azerbaijan, from 21 to 24 November.

He attended the 2016 SPECA Economic Forum “Enhanced Implementation of SDGs through Cooperation” and the 11th session of the SPECA Governing Council, in Ganja, to which the Central Asian states participated. He delivered a speech in the session devoted to “Reviving and Re-balancing Economic Growth: Review of Cross-Border Connectivity Initiatives and Priority Policy Reform”.  

In Baku, SRSG Draganov met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan (multilateral and security affairs) Araz Azimov, with whom he discussed political, security and economic developments in Central Asia and the broader Caspian region, and with Farxad Mamedov, the Director of The Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Azerbaijan. He also had discussions with the UN Resident Coordinator and representatives of the diplomatic community in Baku.
