UNRCCA and UNITAR organise a series of trainings in the area of preventive diplomacy

ALMATY, Kazakhstan—

The United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) in collaboration with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and with the financial support of the Government of Finland organized a series of trainings aimed at strengthening regional capacities to manage cross-border threats through the reinforcement of the expertise of civil servants in the areas relevant to preventive diplomacy. Five one week trainings covered good governance, natural resources management, human security, conflict transformation and public-private-people partnership. 83 people from different Central Asian countries participated in these exercises, which took place in Almaty from 18 May till 19 June 2015.

Taking into consideration the feedback received from participants, the high interest expressed by interlocutors in Central Asian capitals and the fact that the Centre’s current Programme of Action for 2015-2017 has a special focus on the need to build capacities in preventive diplomacy, it is planned to continue with similar activities in the future.
