Training on Preventive Diplomacy for Young Diplomats from Central Asian States

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan -

A five-day training on preventive diplomacy organized by the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) in cooperation with the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) held in Ashgabat on 3-7 November. Diplomats from all five Central Asian states took part in this event.

The training on preventive diplomacy was conducted by international experts and aimed at strengthening the knowledge and skills of junior diplomats in conflict analysis and interest-based negotiation. The importance of understanding root causes of conflict and identifying solutions that meet the major concerns of the parties in the conflict were addressed. The program examined efforts in preventive diplomacy and confidence-building. The structure of the training includes theory, negotiation practice, case studies and presentations.
