ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan –

Three-day training "International Legal Instruments on Transboundary Water Management" organized by the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) with support of the Government of the United States of America, held in Ashgabat on 5-7 December. Representatives of all five Central Asian states took part in this event.

International experts conducted presentations on international water law in order to enhance knowledge and skills for specialists from the region for the effective use of transboundary water resources and resolution of potential disputes on the bases of the interests of all states involved.

The legal instruments in the field of dispute resolution on transboundary water resources, as well as best experience and international practices in this area were reviewed. The programme of the training also included a study of preventive diplomacy methodology and negotiation practices.
