BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan -

Following the tragic events in Kyrgyzstan on 6-8 April SRSG Jenca made several visits to Bishkek and the South of Kyrgyzstan during following weeks.

The purposes of the visits were to follow-up with UN assistance and get first-hand information on the current situation. During his visits the SRSG met with the Chairperson of the Interim Government, acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, international community and NGO representatives.

During his discussions the SRSG emphasized the UN coordinating role in areas of constitutional reform, economic development and reconciliation efforts.

The SRSG is meeting the religious leader of Osh city in the south of Kyrgyzstan.
