SRSG Natalia Gherman attends high-level meeting in Kazakhstan

Almaty, 16 February, 2018: SRSG Natalia Gherman took part in the special high-level meeting “Kazakhstan - United Nations: experience, achievements and prospects of cooperation”, dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of the United Nations presence in the Republic of Kazakhstan, which took place on 16 February 2018 in Almaty (Kazakhstan).

 

In her statement, she extended greetings to the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on this occasion and noted a significant contribution of the country to promoting peace and security at both regional and global levels. She thanked the Kazakh side for a continued support to the work of UNRCCA, and noted a special role of Kazakhstan in representing interests of Central Asia during its term of membership in the United National Security Council, in particular while exercising its presidency in UNSC in January 2018. 

 

On the margins of the meeting, SRSG Natalia Gherman had a bilateral encounter with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Kairat Abdrakhmanov, to exchange views on the state-of-play in the region and to discuss perspectives for cooperation in 2018. In addition, she had meetings with the representatives of the UN Country Team in Almaty, as well as with other international partners represented in Kazakhstan.
