TASHKENT, Uzbekistan -

On 28-29 February, SRSG and Head of UNRCCA Miroslav Jenča held meetings in Tashkent with the High-level Government officials of Uzbekistan, including the First Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance Rustam Azimov, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov, and the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy Issues of the Senate of Oliy Majlis Sodiq Safaev. He also met with representatives of the diplomatic community and the United Nations country office.

The discussion focused on cooperation between UNRCCA and the Government of Uzbekistan within the framework of its mandate. The two sides also discussed current trends and developments in Central Asia, efforts to combat terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking, finding durable solutions to problems related to the management of common natural resources and environmental degradation. Particular focus was on potential implications of developments in Afghanistan for the region.
