TASHKENT, Uzbekistan

On 16 December, Kaha Imnadze, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia, Head of UNRCCA, visited Tashkent and met with H.E. Bakhtiyor Saidov, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Fanil Kadirov, Acting Director of the International Institute of Central Asia (IICA).

Discussions focused on cooperation between UNRCCA and Uzbekistan in the areas of transboundary water management, climate change, security, situation in Afghanistan, promotion of regional connectivity and youth agenda. In 2024 the annual Deputy Foreign Ministers meeting of UNRCCA and Central Asian states will be held in Uzbekistan.

Full support was expressed to all UNRCCA’s programmatic activities, and the interlocutors discussed possible organization of joint complementary events in 2024.

SRSG also had a working meeting with Ms. Ashita Mittal, UN Office for Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Representative to Central Asia. The sides exchanged views on collaboration and mutual support in preventing of terrorism and extremism.
