SRSG briefs the UN Security Council
NEW YORK- WASHINGTON DC –
On 2 February, Mr. Petko Draganov, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), visited New York in connection with his regular briefing to the UN Security Council.
SRSG Draganov briefed the Security Council members on the work of the Centre, key developments since his last biannual briefing to the Council on 15 June 2016, and shared his perspectives on key issues, including the rising threat of terrorism and extremism in Central Asia, the regional impact of the situation in Afghanistan, drug-trafficking, trans-boundary water management and ongoing tensions linked to border-related disputes.
SRSG Draganov also visited Washington DC for consultations with the U.S. State Department, as well as with International Financial Institutions (World Bank and IMF).
