BRUSSELS, Belgium -

During his stay in Brussels, on 18-19 May, SRSG Jenča attended the EU Political and Security Committee.

Key challenges to security were outlined as well as UNRCCA actions to mitigate them. Emphasis was placed on the significance of UN-EU cooperation, with a specific mention of the EU-sponsored project on implementing the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia. A meeting was held with EUSR for Central Asia, Mr. Pierre Morel.

Discussions mostly touched upon coordination of international assistance in Kyrgyzstan in the run up to the referendum on the constitution and general elections, and water-energy developments in the region.
