ASTANA, Kazakhstan -

On 10-11 February 2014, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNRCCA, Miroslav Jenča, visited Astana to meet with the Speaker of the Senate Kassym-Jomart Tokaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs Erlan Idrissov and Chair of the National Security Committee Nurtay Abykaev.

The sides exchanged views on current developments in Kazakhstan and in Central Asia. Talks focused on the fair use of shared water resources in the region, fight against organized transnational crime including terrorism, religious extremism, corruption and drugs and support for joint regional and bilateral efforts in stabilization of Afghanistan. SRSG appreciated active engagement of Kazakhstan in the implementation of Global Counter-terrorism Strategy Project in Central Asia initiated by the UNRCCA.
