Visit of SRSG Miroslav Jenča to Moscow

MOSCOW, Russia -

On 26-27 April, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Miroslav Jenča conducted a working visit to Moscow. During the visit, Mr. Jenča held talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation with the State Secretary-Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin and Presidential Envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov. The Head of UNRCCA also met with the Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergei Lebedev and Deputy Secretary-General of the CSTO Gennadiy Nevyglas.

During the meetings an exchange of views took place on the current situation in Central Asia, potential developments, taking into account the situation in the neighboring Afghanistan in the context of the upcoming withdrawal of the troops of the international coalition in 2014 and possible contribution of the Central Asian countries to the efforts of rehabilitation of the Afghan economy.

Special attention was paid to regional interaction in the management of water and energy resources, perspectives of reaching mutually acceptable solutions and possible support of the international community. Current issues of the regional cooperation in fighting terrorism, extremism, drug-trafficking and organized crime as well as the initiatives of UNRCCA in this field and the possibility of further support by the Russian side of the UN initiatives in Central Asia aimed at maintaining peace and stability were also discussed.
