UNRCCA HOSTS ONLINE SESSION ON CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS FOR PREVENTIVE DIPLOMACY ACADEMY 2025 COHORT

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan

On 24 September 2025, UNRCCA convened an online session on “Cybersecurity Awareness: Protecting our Digital World” as part of the Preventive Diplomacy Academy’s 2025 Cohort. The session aimed at equipping young participants from Central Asia and Afghanistan with essential knowledge to navigate the evolving digital landscape securely.

The presentation was delivered by Ms. Nadima Noory, UNRCCA Telecommunications Officer, who shared her expertise in information and communications technology (ICT). During the presentation, participants examined key aspects of cybersecurity, including password protection, multi-factor authentication, safe browsing, mobile and social media security, and data backup practices. Practical guidance, illustrated with real-world examples such as identifying phishing attempts and the importance of regular system updates, underscored how individual awareness can help prevent breaches and foster a culture of digital security.

Following the presentation, participants engaged in a 25-minute interactive discussion, posing questions and exchanging views on the application of cybersecurity measures in diplomatic contexts. The session underscored UNRCCA’s commitment to strengthening resilience against cyber threats in Central Asia, while raising awareness and promoting responsible digital practices among youth.

The Preventive Diplomacy Academy’s session also formed part of UNRCCA’s contribution to the United Nations’ Cybersecurity Awareness Month campaign in October, reinforcing the importance of safer digital practices.

Through the Preventive Diplomacy Academy, UNRCCA strengthens the capacities of young professionals in preventive diplomacy, conflict resolution, and sustainable development. The cybersecurity session forms part of broader UN efforts to promote digital safety and responsible online engagement.
