SRSG Miroslav Jenča participated at SCO Summit in Bishkek

BISHKEK, Kyrgyz republic -

Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Miroslav Jenča visited Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) to attend the meeting of the Council of the Heads of States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, on 12-13 September. On the sidelines of the summit SRSG Jenča took part in the meetings conducted by the UN delegation with President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Erlan Abdyldaev and SCO Secretary-General Dmitry Mezentsev.

During the meetings an exchange of views took place on the current situation and potential developments in Central Asia and Afghanistan, and cooperation between the UN and SCO. Various aspects of regional cooperation were discussed, including counteraction against terrorism, extremism, organized crime, drug trafficking as well as promoting interaction in various formats for the management of water and energy resources.

UNRCCA conflict prevention activities and interaction with Central Asian countries on the matter were also discussed.
