SRSG KAHA IMNADZE VISITS WASHINGTON

On 1-2 February 2024, Kaha Imnadze, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia, Head of UNRCCA, as part of his regular consultations with the Permanent Members of the UN Security Council, visited Washington and held meetings with government officials, including the Department of State, the National Security Council, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as well as representatives of the IMF and the World Bank Group, the Institute of Peace and the United Nations Foundation.

SRSG Kaha Imnadze exchanged views on a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including the overall geopolitical situation as well as specific political, security and socio-economic developments in Central Asia. The sides noted the efforts of the Central Asian states to maintain stability in the region and underlined importance of preventive diplomacy and the role of UNRCCA to address existing and emerging challenges to peace and security. 

Furthermore, discussions focused on possible US support to the UNRCCA activities in its priority areas related to climate change and transboundary water management, prevention of violent extremism conducive to terrorism and implementation of the Women, Peace and Security and the Youth, Peace and Security agendas.
