Seminar “The Impact of Glaciers Melting on Water Resources In Central Asia in the Context of Climate Change”

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan –An international seminar “The Impact of Glaciers Melting on Water Resources in Central Asia in the Context of Climate Change” was organized by the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) and the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, with the support of the Government of the United States of America, on 8-9 November in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic.

This event was organized as a follow-up to seminars that took place in Almaty (2013) and Dushanbe (2014).

The seminar was attended by specialists from the relevant ministries and agencies of Central Asian states and Afghanistan, representatives of international and regional organizations, donor organizations, scientific institutions and independent experts.

Participants discussed the issues related to the impact of glaciers melting on the environmental situation and water resources in Central Asia and reviewed further practical steps to promote regional dialogue on glacier research, climate change adaptation and sustainable water resources management in the Central Asian mountain regions.
