ASHGABAT,  Turkmenistan

On 11-13 October 2013, UNRCCA together with other UN entities and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan organized the second diplomatic mini-football tournament for the “UN Preventive Diplomacy Cup”. The tournament was organized within the framework of the UN Day to underscore the role of sport in promoting friendship and peace among countries.

The teams of the Embassies of Tajikistan, the United Arab Emirates, the USA, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the OSCE, the UN, and the Joint Team of the diplomatic community took part in the tournament. The US Embassy won the "UN Preventive Diplomacy Cup" this year. The UN and the Joint Team gained silver and bronze medals respectively. The trophy is kept by the winner until a new champion is crowned in the next "UN Preventive Diplomacy Cup" tournament to take place in 2014.

Following the previously established tradition Ambassadors' friendly match together Turkmenistan MFA senior officials was organized after the final of the tournament. It attracted increased attention and genuine support by the fans.
