International Conference “From a Nuclear Test Ban to a Nuclear-Weapons-Free World”

ASTANA, Kazakhstan -

On 29 August, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), Miroslav Jenča, took part in the international conference "From a nuclear test ban to a nuclear-weapons-free world" organized by the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament.

The conference, which was opened by the President of Kazakhstan, was seeking the ways of building national and global security without nuclear weapons, establishing regional nuclear-weapons-free zones, and achieving the global abolition of nuclear weapons.

On behalf of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the SRSG addressed the participants of the conference with a message that underlined importance of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and urged states that have not yet signed and ratified the CTBT to do so without delay.
