Interfax-Kazakhstan: The UN offers help to the Central Asian countries in saving the Aral Sea

ALMATY, Kazakhstan -

"My Special Representative on Central Asia, Mr. Miroslav Jenča and the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy are ready to help you to find a long-term solution to many issues and offer intermediary services at talks on this issue," says the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, in his address to the participants in Summit of the Heads of State, founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).

Ban Ki-moon's address says that "in case of necessity, the UN's specialized departments are also ready to help and provide the countries of the region with necessary technical knowledge and experience".

The UN Secretary-General also says that the IFAS has all resources for working out mutually beneficial and long-term solutions. "The fact that this fund has been given the status of an international observer shows that the UN is helping you in the implementation of this potential," he added.
