UNRCCA HOLDS INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY EVENT IN ASHGABAT

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan

On 7 December, UNRCCA organized an event at its headquarters in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, to commemorate International Volunteer Day.

In 1985, the General Assembly designated 5 December as International Volunteer Day to highlight the importance of the contributions of volunteers around the world. International Volunteer Day 2019 was organized around the world under the slogan, "Volunteer for an Inclusive Future."

UNRCCA's event included our own United Nations Volunteer, volunteers with UNFPA's Y-Peer network as well as from the Prep4Success Program of the American Councils in Ashgabat and the National Honor Society at the Ashgabat International School.

Students from Ashgabat schools had the opportunity to learn about ways they could get involved in the UNRCCA Preventive Diplomacy Academy, the United Nations Volunteer programme, Y-Peer and Prep4Success.

They also participated in a number of games and educational activities designed to raise awareness of the benefits of volunteering, both to the volunteers as well as to the communities they serve.

The UNRCCA Preventive Diplomacy Academy will hold its capstone event in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on 11-12 December and participants will join the first regional Central Asian Government-Youth Dialogue, as part of UNRCCA's annual meeting of Deputy Foreign Ministers of Central Asia and Afghanistan, on 14 December in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
