UNRCCA CO-ORGANIZES “MODEL UN TRAINING SESSION” FOR TURKMEN YOUTH

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan

On 25-28 February, UNRCCA in partnership with the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), USAID/Winrock, the Westminster International University in Tashkent and with support of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan conducted the first “Turkmenistan Ashgabat Model UN Training Session (TAMUN)”.

More than 50 young participants from state institutions such as the Turkmen State University, the Institute of International Relations, the International University for Humanities and Development as well as alumni from the UNRCCA Preventive Diplomacy Academy got acquainted with the work of the United Nations in areas related to peace and security, human rights and the rule of law. The interactive platform provided young participants with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge in international relations through group discussions simulating activities of different UN committees and their interaction with Member States.

During the thematic sessions, the organizers also presented their programmes and projects involving young people in prevention and countering of violent extremism, terrorism, human trafficking, drug trafficking and other forms of transnational organized crime, while taking into consideration the role of human rights in addressing these challenges.
