TURKMENISTAN ADOPTS NATIONAL ACTION PLAN FOR 2021-2024 ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PVE AND CT STRATEGY

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan

On 4 December 2020, His Excellency President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov endorsed the National Action Plan for 2021-2024 on the implementation of the Strategy of Turkmenistan to Prevent Violent Extremism and Counter Terrorism. The Plan was developed with the support of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia and the UN Counter-Terrorism Office - UN Counter-Terrorism Centre under the Phase III of the project “Towards a comprehensive implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia”.

The development of the Strategy and its Action Plan was initiated by Turkmenistan, in view of international best practices in countering violent extremism and terrorism, including the basic principles set out in the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and the recommendations of the Executive Directorate of the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee. The expertise of other countries in the region and neutral states on the practical role of such action plans was taken into consideration.

The Action Plan defines concrete steps for implementation of the National Strategy during the next four years, including establishment of specific inter-agency commissions and working groups with concrete tasks. The Action Plan also defines   framework for partnership with the UN and other international and regional organizations.
