SRSG's visit to Kazakhstan
ASTANA, Kazakhstan --
On 20-21 October, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNRCCA, Miroslav Jenča, visited Astana and met with First Deputy Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Minister of Foreign Affairs Erlan Idrissov, Deputy Chairman of the Senate Askar Beisenbayev, Assistant to the President Nurlan Onzhanov, Director of Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies Erlan Karin and the diplomatic community.
In his meeting with interlocutors the SRSG discussed developments within Central Asia and beyond affecting security and stability in the region. The sides particularly focused on challenges related to water/energy issues, transnational organized crime, situation in Afghanistan and the Middle East, and ways to address them, including through regional cooperation.
