SRSG NATALIA GHERMAN MEETS WITH UZBEK DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER AND DIRECTOR OF THE INSTITUTE FOR STRATEGIC AND REGIONAL STUDIES UNDER THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN
On October 27, Natalia Gherman, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia, Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), held encounters with Mr. Sherzod Asadov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan and Mr. Eldor Aripov, Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The discussion with the Deputy Minister focused on implementation of activities in the key priority areas of the UNRCCA, which were outlined during the last meeting of the Deputy Foreign Ministers of Central Asia and Afghanistan in June 2020. Cooperation within the expert forum, composed of the institutes of strategic studies of the Central Asian states, on key regional challenges was discussed with Mr. Aripov.
The Uzbek interlocutors expressed strong support to UNRCCA initiatives aimed at closer interaction and cooperation in the region and reassured their strong engagement in the Centre’ s activities.
