SRSG NATALIA GHERMAN ADDRESSES THE WOMEN’S ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT FORUM

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan

On 2 July 2021, SRSG Natalia Gherman addressed the session on Women, Peace and Security at the ‘Women’s Economic Empowerment Forum” organized as part of the annual Astana Finance Days Conference. 

SRSG Natalia Gherman highlighted interconnectedness between economic empowerment of women and implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.

Acknowledging headways made by the Central Asian States in implementing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, she underscored importance of solidarity and regional cooperation among women at all levels to counter consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, threatening  to reverse progress achieved.

In this context she stressed the role of the recently established Central Asia Women Leaders’ Caucus which has the potential to : “…. become the essential actor not only in advancing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, but in maintaining stability and security in the region as a whole.”

The event focused on the role of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Central Asia and women’s participation in promoting connectivity and partnership to counter regional threats and challenges.
