The Troika format was established in 2010 to coordinate response to existing and emerging security related challenges in the region.

As part of his visit, the SRSG also held meetings with the high-level EU officials, including Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary General; Magdalena Grono, Chief Foreign Policy Adviser to the President; Luc Devigne, Director Eastern Europe, Russia, Central Asia, regional cooperation and OSCE; Taneli Lahti, Head of Cabinet of Commissioner, and Bartjan Wegter, EU Counter-terrorism Coordinator.

The sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including the overall geopolitical situation as well as specific political, security and socio-economic developments in Central Asia. They noted the efforts of the Central Asian states to maintain peace, stability and economic development in the region, including through promoting a multi-vector foreign policy.

Furthermore, discussions focused on possible partnership between the EU and UNRCCA in the areas related to climate change and transboundary water management, prevention of violent extremism conducive to terrorism and implementation of the Women, Peace and Security and the Youth, Peace and Security agendas.
