Following the letter dated from 7 May 2007 from Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to the President of the Security Council, and the request from five Central Asian States, the Security Council established the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy (UNRCCA) in Ashgabat by its resolution S/2007/280 of 16 May 2007.
