PUBLICATION “ADDRESSING CONDITIONS CONDUCIVE TO THE SPREAD OF VIOLENT EXTREMISM AND TERRORISM”

The UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia has issued a new publication entitled “Addressing Conditions Conducive to the Spread of Violent Extremism and Terrorism”.

This publication represents a compilation of discussions by meeting participants of the regional workshop “Addressing Conditions Conducive to the Spread of Violent Extremism and Terrorism” that was organized jointly with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism- the UN Center for Counter Terrorism (UNOCT-UNCCT) in Astana, Kazakhstan, on 21-22 May 2018. The workshop was part of Phase III of a project implemented since 2010 in support of the Joint Plan of Action (JPoA) to implement the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia which was adopted in November 2011 in Ashgabat.

This workshop brought together Central Asian policy makers, practitioners, civil society organizations, experts as well as experts from countries outside of the region and representatives of regional and international organizations to share experiences, strategies, best practices and challenges in preventing violent extremism and addressing conditions conducive to the spread of violent extremism and terrorism.

The publication is expected to be of interest to diplomats, state officials, academic circles and political analysts of Central Asian states and the international expert community that follows up on developments in the region.
