ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan
On World Humanitarian Day, the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia joins the United Nations in honouring humanitarian workers who have lost their lives while helping people affected by conflicts, disasters and crises.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 82 humanitarian workers have been killed, 97 injured and 39 kidnapped worldwide so far in 2026.
In their memory, the UN flag was lowered at 12:00 on 19 August, marking a moment to honour their courage, dedication and sacrifice.
UNRCCA pays tribute to all humanitarian workers who have lost their lives and reaffirms the importance of protecting those who continue to assist people in need.
As the UN Secretary-General stated: “Humanitarian workers stand up for people in need. We must stand up for them. We must act for humanity – now.”
