On 23–24 July 2026, Kaha Imnadze, SRSG for Central Asia and Head of UNRCCA, visited Washington, D.C., as part of his regular consultations with the Permanent Members of the United Nations Security Council. During the visit, he held meetings with senior officials of the United States Department of State, the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund. He also met with representatives of several think tanks specializing in security-related issues.
The SRSG exchanged views with his interlocutors on a broad range of issues of mutual interest, including the evolving geopolitical context and recent political, security and socio-economic developments in Central Asia and the wider region. The discussions underscored the efforts of the Central Asian states to promote regional stability and highlighted the importance of preventive diplomacy, as well as the role of UNRCCA, in addressing existing and emerging challenges to peace and security.
The discussions also explored opportunities for further engagement in support of UNRCCA's priority areas of work, including the prevention of violent extremism conducive to terrorism, climate change and transboundary water management, and the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security and Youth, Peace and Security agendas.
