TASHKENT, Uzbekistan
On 4 June 2026, SRSG for Central Asia and Head of UNRCCA Kaha Imnadze attended the Second Termez Dialogue on Connectivity between Central and South Asia in Tashkent.
Co-organized by the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and with UNRCCA being a partner, the Dialogue brought together representatives from Central and South Asian states, regional and international organizations, financial institutions, and development partners to explore practical ways to strengthen interregional connectivity in support of peace, stability and sustainable development. Discussions covered political dialogue and economic connectivity, climate adaptation and environmental resilience, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation. Key themes included trade, transport and logistics, energy cooperation, disaster-risk resilience, educational and cultural exchanges, and Afghanistan's gradual integration into regional processes.
In his statement, SRSG Imnadze welcomed Uzbekistan's proactive and open approach to regional cooperation and noted the Dialogue's value as a platform for translating the broader Central–South Asia connectivity vision into practical action. He underlined that genuine connectivity rests on the combination of infrastructure, trade routes, political confidence, predictable rules and sustained dialogue among the states and partners involved.
Referring to Afghanistan’s key role in connecting Central and South Asia, SRSG Imnadze noted the importance of continued regional engagement with Afghanistan through carefully designed and principled cooperation that can help reduce isolation, support basic economic activity and contribute sustainable peace and security across the entire region.
The Second Termez Dialogue builds on the 2021 Tashkent conference, the 2022 UN General Assembly resolution on interregional connectivity, and the inaugural Termez Dialogue of May 2025.
