On 6 May 2026, UNRCCA’s Preventive Diplomacy Academy (PDA) participants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan gathered virtually for the Model United Nations (MUN) Conference, organized with the support of the PDA Network Alumni.

The initiative aimed to strengthen young people’s skills in diplomacy, critical thinking, and public speaking, through a dynamic simulation of the work of the United Nations bodies, focused on global priorities including Youth, Peace, and Security Agenda, climate action, and the ethical use of emerging technologies.

The MUN simulation was structured around three thematic committees: Security Council: “Enhancing Youth Participation in Addressing the Proliferation of Emerging Technologies in Modern Conflict, with particular emphasis on cyber warfare and the implications of artificial intelligence; General Assembly: Institutionalizing Youth Representation in National Parliaments and Global Governance; and UNFCCC Committee: Enhancing Youth Participation in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to advance climate action.

Comprising approximately 15–20 delegates each, the committees engaged in structured debates, drafting exercises, and formal voting processes aligned with United Nations procedural standards.

Delegates were briefed on core procedural elements, including roll call, the introduction of motions, and distinctions between procedural and substantive voting. Security Council-specific rules, including the exercise of veto power by permanent members, were also introduced.

Participants worked collectively to develop draft resolutions aligned with the thematic priorities of each committee. PDA alumni facilitators supported and guided participants throughout the simulation, highlighting the importance of public speaking, negotiation, and critical thinking.

Mr. Andriy Larin, Political Affairs Officer at UNRCCA, highlighted that “The MUN serves as an important platform for youth engagement on global issues, while fostering the development of key diplomatic and leadership skills. By simulating real United Nations processes, participants gain hands-on experience in multilateral dialogue and cooperation, essential for building a more peaceful and sustainable future”.

As part of broader UNRCCA efforts, the PDA MUN initiative is designed to deepen regional cooperation across Central Asia and Afghanistan. Through structured educational activities and simulation-based learning within the Preventive Diplomacy Academy, it contributes to preparing future leaders committed to peace, security, and sustainable development.
