On 9 February, UNRCCA, in partnership with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team, and with the support of the Government of Uzbekistan, organized a regional roundtable entitled “Good Practices in Implementing the Sanctions Regimes under Resolutions 1267 (1999), 1989 (2011), 2253 (2015), and 1988 (2011).”
The roundtable was held at the Law Enforcement Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan and brought together participants from all Central Asian states.
Participants had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the objectives and requirements of United Nations Security Council resolutions on counter-terrorism, with particular emphasis on sanctions regimes.
National authorities also shared good practices and lessons learned in implementing sanctions measures, including asset freezes, travel bans, and arms embargoes, and discussed ways to strengthen regional cooperation and enhance synergies with existing United Nations agencies, as well as regional and international organizational frameworks.
Participants identified a number of challenges and potential solutions related to designation, implementation, and delisting processes, including issues of institutional coordination, information sharing, and respect for human rights.
