On 30 January 2026, UNRCCA, in collaboration with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), convened a High-level Briefing on the Counter-Terrorism Early Warning Network for Central Asia at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The High-level Briefing aimed to apprise Member States of the scope, progress and strategic significance of the Early Warning Network, as well as to facilitate discussions on political, technical and financial support for the ongoing and future activities undertaken within the framework of this initiative.

In his opening statement, Kaha Imnadze, SRSG for Central Asia, highlighted that “the Early Warning Network is one of the most significant initiatives under the UNOCT/UNRCCA multiyear project on the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia. Its primary objective is to strengthen the capacities of Central Asian states by enhancing regional cooperation, coordination, and information sharing on issues related to preventing violent extremism and countering terrorism”.

Representatives of Central Asian and other Member States participating in the briefing expressed strong support for the initiative and underscored the importance of information exchange and capacity-building activities for State officials and civil society representatives as key efforts to address security-related challenges in the region.

The Counter-Terrorism Early Warning Network for Central Asia was launched in 2022. In 2025, a significant number of activities were implemented with the participation of authorities, non-governmental organizations and academic institutions from the Central Asian States, as well as United Nations entities and regional organizations.
