On 20 April, UNRCCA and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) held a regional consultation and briefing on the Counter-Terrorism Early Warning Network for Central Asia initiative. The event took place in a hybrid format and brought together government officials, think tank experts, and civil society representatives from all five Central Asian countries.

In addition to participants from Central Asia, representatives from the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) also joined the discussion.

Participants shared updates on recent developments in Central Asia and Afghanistan, including security issues, the humanitarian situation, and political and socio-economic trends, as well as regional cooperation in areas such as joint economic projects. It was noted that the situation in Afghanistan has become more complex in recent months, partly due to escalating tensions in the Middle East, including Iran, and military clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Participants were also briefed on plans for the current year under the Counter-Terrorism Early Warning Network for Central Asia and ways to further strengthen this initiative.
