VISIT OF SRSG NATALIA GHERMAN TO UZBEKISTAN

On 15 September 2018, in the margins of a working visit to Uzbekistan to steer the regional event for parliamentarians and experts of Central Asia and Afghanistan, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) and Head of UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Natalia Gherman met with H.E. Abdulaziz Kamilov, the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan and H.E. Vladimir Norov, the Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan.
The meetings enabled to continue conversation on areas of common interest aimed at practical implementation of the UNRCCA mandate, its Plan of Action for 2018-2020 as well as to exchange information on current peace and security developments.
The Uzbek counterparts noted with satisfaction the Centre’s efforts to support the regional countries’ joint aspiration towards creating a zone of peace, cooperation and prosperity in Central Asia and Afghanistan. In this context, the sides highlighted the importance of follow up coordinated actions along the UN General Assembly resolution on ‘Strengthening regional and international cooperation to ensure peace, stability and sustainable development in Central Asian region.’
During the talks, SRSG Gherman also detailed UN perspectives regarding planned events of Central Asian Institutes of Strategic Studies in October and international conference of global and regional think-tanks in February 2019.
