Visit of SRSG Miroslav Jenča to Moscow

MOSCOW, Russia  --

Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), Miroslav Jenča, met with State Secretary-Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin, Presidential Envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov, Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergei Lebedev and Secretary-General of EurAsEC Tair Mansurov on 26-27 November in Moscow.

During the meetings an exchange of views took place on the current situation in Central Asia, potential developments, taking into account the situation in the neighboring Afghanistan in the context of the upcoming withdrawal of the troops of the international coalition in 2014.

Special attention was paid to issues related to strengthening regional cooperation in the management of trans-boundary water resources, countering terrorism, extremism, drug-trafficking and organized crime. Activities of UNRCCA and the possibility of further support by the Russian side of UN initiatives in Central Asia aimed at maintaining peace and stability were also discussed.
