UNRCCA CO-ORGANIZES INTERACTIVE TRAINING COURSE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UN OFFICE OF COUNTER-TERRORISM AND THE SHANGHAI COOPERATION ORGANIZATION

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan

On 24-27 October 2022, UNRCCA in partnership with the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (RATS SCO) organized a training course on Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) data in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The training course covered the analysis of the threat environment, international legal frameworks and requirements related to API/PNR. The latest methodology and best practices were presented by relevant UN entities, including the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) and the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), as well as INTERPOL.

The training course was conducted under the project “UNOCT Cooperation with the RATS SCO” and within the framework of the UNRCCA and UNOCT multi-year efforts to support the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia.

Twenty-five representatives from the SCO Member States and Turkmenistan, which has an observer status in the SCO, took part in the course and shared their experience in the implementation of the API/PNR provisions.
