SRSG NATALIA GHERMAN HELD PHONE TALKS WITH MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE KYRGYZ REPUBLIC CHINGIZ AIDARBEKOV

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan

On October 12, Natalia Gherman, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Asia, Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), held a telephone conversation with Chingiz Aidarbekov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic. 

During the conversation, Natalia Gherman affirmed that the UN has always been and remains a reliable partner of the Kyrgyz Republic and will support the state's way forward along the path of democracy.

The UN calls for a peaceful resolution of the current situation and believes that at this moment the President, Sooronbai Sharipovich Jeenbekov, represents the constitutional authority in the country.

The President has legal instruments, and with the support of all political forces, broad sectors of the population, including civil society and youth, he will be able to find the right solutions for the state.  

The Special Representative also noted that UN Secretary-General António Guterres is closely following the events in the Kyrgyz Republic. In his statements dated October 6 and 9, the Secretary-General confirmed the UN's readiness to assist in finding solutions to overcome the crisis within the framework of the constitutional process, including in organizing new parliamentary elections in the Kyrgyz Republic and securing the prompt economic stabilization of the country.

In his turn, Minister Aidarbekov thanked Ms. Gherman for the timely attention and readiness to provide support. The Foreign Minister noted that currently the President of the Kyrgyz Republic is making efforts to reconduct the ongoing political process into the legal framework as soon as possible.

The Minister also noted that in view of the growth of COVID-19 cases over the recent period, the Kyrgyz side counts on the UN support in the fight against the spread of coronavirus and the negative impact of the pandemic on the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic.
